Indian Air Force Agniveervayu Age Limits & Marital Rules
1. Date of Birth
- Eligible Birth Dates: Candidates born between July 1, 2005 and January 1, 2010 (both dates inclusive) are eligible to apply.
- Upper Enrolment Age Boundary: If a candidate clears all selection stages, her/his maximum age limit at the time of final enrolment must not exceed 22 years.

2. Marital Status & Pregnancy Rules
- Only unmarried candidates can apply. They must sign an undertaking promising not to marry during the 4-year engagement period. Agniveervayu who marries or are found married during service will be dismissed.
- Female candidates must also promise not to get pregnant during the four-year tenure. Becoming pregnant will lead to dismissal from service and will bar them from joining the regular cadre.
Indian Air Force Agniveervayu Educational Qualification Requirements
Candidates can apply under either Science or Non-Science subjects, depending on their eligibility:
1. Science Subjects
- Class 12th Route: Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics, and English from a recognised board, with at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
- Engineering Diploma Route: Passed a 3-year Diploma Course in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Automobile, Computer Science, Instrumentation Technology, or Information Technology) from a recognised polytechnic institute with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
- Vocational Route: Passed a 2-year Vocational Course with non-vocational subjects of Physics and Mathematics from a recognised board, with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
2. Other Than Science Subjects
- Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination in any stream or subjects with at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
- Passed a 2-year Vocational Course from a recognised board with at least 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
Fraction Percentage Note: Marks will not be rounded off under any circumstances. For example, an aggregate score of 49.99% will be recorded strictly as 49% and will render the candidate ineligible. Science stream applicants can opt to attempt both Science and Non-Science papers in a single sitting.
Indian Air Force Agniveervayu Mandatory Physical & Medical Standards
Candidates must be physically and mentally fit to perform duties in any part of the world. The baseline parameters are as follows:
- Height Requirements:
- Male Candidates: Minimum acceptable height is 152 cms.
- Female Candidates: Minimum acceptable height is 152 cms. (Candidates from the North East or hilly areas of Uttarakhand have a relaxed limit of 147 cms, and those from Lakshadweep require 150 cms).
- Weight: Must be proportionate to height and age parameters according to the IAF metrics.
- Chest Expansion: For both male and female candidates, the chest wall must be well-developed with a minimum range of expansion of 05 cms. (Male candidates must have a minimum baseline chest circumference of 77 cms).
- Hearing: Able to hear a forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
- Dental Standards: Healthy gums, a good set of teeth, and a minimum of 14 dental points. Fixed or removable orthodontic appliances are not allowed.
- Visual Standards: Visual acuity must be 6/12 in each eye, correctable to 6/6 in each eye. Hypermetropia limits are +2.00 D, and Myopia limits are -1.00 D. Candidates with a history of LASIK or PRK surgeries will be rejected.
- Tattoos & Hair Rules: Permanent body tattoos are prohibited, except on the inner face of the forearms, back of the hand, or for specific tribal traditions. Only Sikh candidates who follow religious traditions are allowed to grow hair or retain a beard and moustache.
Indian Air Force Agniveervayu Service Tenure, Salary Package & Terminal Benefits
Agniveervayu are enrolled under the Air Force Act 1950 for a fixed period of four years. They will form a distinct rank and are not eligible for regular Ex-Servicemen (ESM) status after discharge.

- Regular Cadre Absorption: On completing 4 years, all Agniveervayu will get an opportunity to apply for regular enrolment. Based on performance metrics and organisational needs, up to 25% of each batch will be absorbed into the regular cadre as regular Airmen.
2. Allied Benefits & Insurance
- Leave Allowances: 30 days of Annual Leave per year, plus Sick Leave based on official medical advice.
- Insurance Coverage: A non-contributory Life Insurance cover of Rs. 48 Lakhs for the entire duration of the engagement period.
- Pensions: There is no entitlement to gratuity or any kind of regular pensionary benefits.
Indian Air Force Agniveervayu Selection Process & Sequence of Examinations
The evaluation pattern is strictly merit-based and split across three successive phases:
Phase I: Online Written Examination
The online test consists of objective multiple-choice questions. Except for the English paper, questions will be available in both English and Hindi.
- Science Subjects (60 Minutes Duration): Comprises Physics, Mathematics, and English papers based on the 10+2 CBSE syllabus.
- Other Than Science Subjects (45 Minutes Duration): Comprises English (10+2 CBSE syllabus) and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA) sections.
- Combined Science & Other Subjects (85 Minutes Duration): Comprises Physics, Mathematics, English, and RAGA sections in a single sitting.
Online Test Marking Scheme
- Correct Answer: +1 Mark
- Unattempted Question: 0 Marks
- Incorrect Answer (Negative Marking): Deduct 0.25 marks for every wrong choice.
Phase-II: Physical Fitness Test (PFT) & Verification
Shortlisted candidates who clear the Phase-I cut-off will receive a new admit card via email for Phase-II. They must report to their designated Airmen Selection Centre (ASC) with colour printouts of their application form and original certificates.
1. Physical Fitness Test Part-1 (PFT-L)
Candidates must finish a 1.6 Km run within the following maximum time limits:
- Male Candidates: Must complete within 7 minutes.
- Female Candidates: Must complete within 8 minutes.
2. Physical Fitness Test Part-2 (PFT-B)
Candidates who qualify to run will undergo the following static conditioning exercises after a 10-minute break:
- Male Candidates: 10 Push-ups (in 1 minute), 10 Sit-ups (in 1 minute), and 20 Squats (in 1 minute).
- Female Candidates: 10 Sit-ups (in 1 minute and 30 seconds) and 15 Squats (in 1 minute).
3. Adaptability Tests
- Adaptability Test-1: Objective-type written test to evaluate a candidate’s suitability for deployment across varied geographic terrains and operational weather conditions.
- Adaptability Test-2: Designed to select candidates who can adapt to the military way of life in the IAF.
Phase-III: Comprehensive Medical Examination
Shortlisted candidates who pass Adaptability Test-2 will undergo detailed medical testing by the Air Force Medical Team. Testing includes blood hemogram, urine analysis, biochemistry profiles, chest X-Ray, and ECG checks. Unfit candidates can appeal through the Appeal Medical Board (AMB) by depositing a fee of Rs. 40/-.
