  • Basic Academic Requirement: Candidates must hold a degree from a recognised university or educational institution. Final-year students can apply for the Preliminary exam but must show proof of passing before entering the Main exam.
  • Order of Studies: The qualification must be obtained through the regular order of studies: SSLC + HSC / Diploma + Undergraduate Degree.
  • Post-Specific Preferences:
    • Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes): Preference is given to candidates holding both B.Com and B.L. degrees with a Diploma in Taxation Laws.
    • Assistant Commissioner of Labour: Preference is given to freedom fighters and members of their families, other things being equal.
  • Knowledge of Tamil: Candidates must have an adequate knowledge of the Tamil language on the notification date. They must have passed SSLC/HSC/Degree with Tamil as a language or studied in Tamil medium.

The recruitment process consists of three successive filtration stages:

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective Type – Screening Test)
  • Main Examination (Descriptive Type – 4 Papers)

Note: Papers II, III, and IV will be checked only if the candidate scores at least 40 marks in the Paper I Tamil Eligibility Test.

  • Banned Items: Mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth chips, pen drives, log tables, books, bags, or any electronic items are strictly prohibited inside the test hall.
  • OMR Instructions: Candidates must use a black ink ballpoint pen only to darken bubbles. Leaving any bubble blank is not allowed; option [E] must be shaded if the answer is unknown. Failure to affix a left-hand thumb impression will lead to a 0.5-mark deduction.
  • Employment NOC: Regular working employees of Central/State Govts, PSUs, or Local Bodies must explicitly declare their service status and present a ‘No Objection Certificate’.
  • Scanned image of passport photo (20 KB – 50 KB) and signature (10 KB – 20 KB)
  • Valid Identity Proof copy (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Passport)
  • SSLC / HSC Marksheets for Date of Birth verification
  • Degree / Provisional passing certificates and consolidated mark sheets
  • Community / Caste Certificate from a competent local authority
  • PSTM Certificate (if claiming reservation under Person Studied in Tamil Medium)
  1. Open your web browser and go to the official website: www.tnpscexams.in.
  2. Register through the One Time Registration (OTR) platform by paying a fee of Rs. 150/- and linking your Aadhaar card.
  3. Log in using your generated User ID and Password credentials.
  4. Click on the “APPLY” button against the Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) link.
  5. Upload your passport photo with your name and the date of photography printed at the bottom.
  6. Upload your signature image inside the designated block dimensions.
  7. Choose two preferred exam centres for the Preliminary evaluation.
  8. Check your entries carefully using the application preview tool window.
  9. Pay the preliminary exam fee of Rs. 100/- via online modes like Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI.
  10. Click “SUBMIT” and save a printout copy of the final application form slip for future processing stages.
