TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Educational Qualification Criteria (As on 11/08/2026)
Candidates must possess the requisite qualifications awarded in the sequence of 10th (SSLC) + 12th (HSC) / Diploma + Bachelor’s Degree + Post Graduate Degree:
- General Posts (Assistant, Revenue Inspector, Sub Registrar, etc.): Any Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University/Institution approved by UGC.
- Assistant Section Officer (Law): Must possess a B.L. Degree from a recognized University.
- Assistant Section Officer (TNPSC): Master’s Degree OR Bachelor’s Degree with BGL OR Bachelor’s Degree with First Class in any part (relaxation for reserved categories).
- Assistant Section Officer cum Programmer: Master’s degree in Computer Applications (MCA) OR M.Sc. in IT / Computer Science.
- Special Assistant / Special Branch Assistant: Any Bachelor’s Degree with Higher/Lower Grade qualification in Typewriting (English & Tamil).
- Assistant (Finance Dept) / Accountant (ELCOT / Handicrafts): Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (B.Com) / Economics / Statistics.
- Executive Officer, Grade-III: Bachelor’s Degree (Preference for B.A. in Indian Culture & Religious Institutions Management). (Must profess Hindu Religion).
- Adequate Knowledge of Tamil: Must have studied Tamil as a language in SSLC / HSC / Degree OR passed the Second Class Language Test in Tamil.
TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Pay Scale and Salary Structure
Selected candidates are appointed under the Tamil Nadu Revised Pay Matrix levels:
- Pay Level 18 (Group II): ₹36,900 – ₹1,16,600/- per month
- Pay Level 16 (Group II): ₹36,400 – ₹1,15,700/- per month
- Pay Level 12 (Group IIA): ₹35,600 – ₹1,12,800/- per month
- Pay Level 11 (Group IIA): ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400/- per month
- Pay Level 10 (Group IIA): ₹20,600 – ₹65,500/- per month
- Pay Level 9 (Group IIA): ₹20,000 – ₹63,600/- per month
- Allowances: Eligible for DA, HRA, CCA, Medical Allowance, and other state allowances as per government rules.
TNPSC Group 2 and 2A Selection Process & Examination Scheme
The recruitment comprises a Common Preliminary Examination followed by separate Main Examinations for Group II and Group IIA services:

- Paper-I: Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Standard, Descriptive, 100 Marks, 3 Hours, Min. 40 Marks to qualify).
- Paper-II: General Studies (Degree Standard, Descriptive, 300 Marks, 3 Hours, Min. 90 Marks). (Ranking is based entirely on Paper-II marks).
- Group IIA Services (Non-Interview Posts):
- Paper-I: Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Standard, Descriptive, 100 Marks, 3 Hours, Min. 40 Marks to qualify).
- Paper-II: General Studies (150 Qs) + General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Qs) (CBT Objective, 300 Marks, 3 Hours, Min. 90 Marks). (Ranking is based entirely on Paper-II marks).
How to Apply Online for TNPSC Group 2 and 2A 2026
- Visit the official application portal of TNPSC at www.tnpscexams.in.
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) by paying ₹150/- (if not registered previously) and link your basic verification profile.
- Log in with your OTR User ID and Password and click on “Apply” against Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II & IIA Services).
- Fill in post choices, educational qualifications, exam language preference, and exam centre preferences.
- Upload recent passport photograph with name and date printed at bottom (20 KB – 50 KB, JPG) and signature (10 KB – 20 KB, JPG).
- Pay the preliminary examination fee of ₹100/- online via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI (unless fee exemption is claimed).
- Review all details using the Application Preview option and click Submit on or before 09 September 2026.
- Download and print a copy of the submitted application form for future records.
